3.4. Control and regulation of fly-ash handling

The system for the regulation and control of fly-ash transport from electric fly-ash separators uses a programmable logic controller (PLC) as the basic control and a regulation unit to which all the external links are connected. The PLC can be designed centrally or be made of several decentralised units interconnected by a communication line.

The system evaluates the correctness and coincidence of input and output signals, including the failure states. All information regarding the state of the technology, failures and inconsonance, is automatically displayed to the operators by means of an operator control panel or a PC based working station with the monitor on which the whole technological process is displayed and controlled. The connection of the PLC with the operator control panel or the PC is made by a communication line.

The conditions and the logic of the fly-ash transport control is software-created in the PLC and at the same time the accuracy of the signals sent is checked by the hardware which provides protection against improper manipulation or protection in case of a failure to part of the system.

Selected functions of the equipment:

Control of fly-ash pneumatic transport from hoppers to electric separators
- The control system controls the pneumatic transport fly-ash units and measures the parameters of transport and control air.

Control of fly-ash bin operation
- The control system is used to monitor fly-ash levels in the bin and eventually put the technology transporting fly-ash to the bin out of action; it is used to aerate the bin and to control the fans.

Fly-ash transport from the bin
- The system controls the technology of fly-ash transportation to further processing, i.e. fly-ash floating to the dumping place or dry pneumatic transportation of the fly-ash to road-tankers, etc.
